Posted in Personal on January 22, 2009 by Mark GarlandWith all the talk about change, sometimes you really don’t want things to change. We had our production meeting Wed afternoon only to find out that my mentor and GREAT friend was leaving the OLC staff. I support him no matter what he does but I will miss him dearly. He has taught me so much and I have grown spiritually through his mentorship. He has no idea what kind of effect he has made in my life, both personally and with God. I just wanted to take a moment and say, Will Goodwin, I love you brother!

Praying for my friends
Posted in General on January 19, 2009 by Mark GarlandI have had some of my friends on my mind today, so I took a little extra time today to say a special prayer for each of them. I am not going to name any names but I just want you to know that I am thinking about you. I do not know if anything is going on with you that is a struggle but I have asked God to take care of your needs. I hold each of my friends near and dear to my heart. I just want you to know that if you need to talk about anything, feel free to give me a call day or night. I will sit with you, pray with you, laugh with you, cry with you, what ever I need to do to help you get through things. Just know that I love you and want the best for you.
Time for an update
Posted in General on January 18, 2009 by Mark GarlandI admitted earlier that I suck at keeping this blog updated but it’s time for something new. It was been a couple of weeks since we started 4 services at OLC and let me just say it has been an AMAZING thing. God is doing something HUGE in Cartersville and I am honored to be a small part of it. We have had over 1000 people for two Sunday’s in a row and this past Wednesday night we had over 100 students at Fuel. Things are CRAZY to say the least. I get to volunteer each week with some of the most wonderful God loving, hard working people in Cartersville, no question about it. You can ask anyone at OLC to do anything or figure out how to make something happen and they will KNOCK IT OUTTA THE PARK !
I SUCK AT BLOGGING
Posted in Mind Dumps on November 25, 2008 by Mark GarlandYes, I said it. I really suck at blogging no matter how hard I try to write something I always have something else to do. Things have been going really well with my family and Oak Leaf and the people that serve are AMAZING. I love them all !!!! Keep watching what is happening at OLC because there are some WONDERFUL things Coming Soon that you don’t want to miss. Fuel is going great with lots of students showing up each week to learn more about God.
Tonight I have 3 teenage boys hanging out at my house, so things are pretty crazy. 3 boys + 3 guitars + 3 amps= 1 Major HEADACHE !!!! but I love it at the same time.
I am praying that all my friends that are traveling for the holiday have a SAFE and fun trip and can’t wait to all get back together soon.
I really want another tattoo and will be getting one SOON !!!!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving !
Wow how time flys
Posted in General on October 6, 2008 by Mark GarlandJust wanted to stop for a minute and fill in the space that I haven’t touched in a LONG TIME. Things have been crazy lately. Church has be AMAZING, it is so AWESOME to see how God is working in Cartersville. Fuel kicked off last week and went really well with a GREAT turn out. Will has been working non stop on the intel lights for the theater, which will hopefully be in use this week. We are still praying that we get the building permits for HOR so work can begin SOON. Amanda and I joined a Journey Group and it has really been good to have someone to talk with and new friendships are building. I have been meeting with Jody about doing online Journey Groups, testing will begin soon so be on the look out for that. We are hoping that it will turn into an online campus in the future. This past Thursday, we had a cornhole tournament at the park and that was tons of fun. Oh well, just wanted to give a quick update but it is time for some sleep.

Been a While
Posted in OakLeaf Thoughts, Personal, Sunday Reflection on August 17, 2008 by Mark GarlandI want to start by saying that I am sorry for not updating this in FOREVER !!
Things have been REALLY busy with life, work, and Oak Leaf. I want to take a couple of minutes and talk about how AWESOME my God is. I have been given some opportunities to serve this past week and it has been great. I spent last weekend helping to redeem a building for God, and this weekend I was given the chance to be a part of The School of Worship with Will Goodwin. It was an awesome site to behold with so many kids engaged in worshiping God, I had tears running down my face just thinking about them being the FUTURE of his kingdom. My prayer is that they will not stray and push through the struggles that they face being a teenager in this day and time. Today started out pretty rough, we were at the theater early, but things just seemed to take SO LONG, and we had all types of problems technically. I have to admit that I just had to walk away and take a minute with God to reaffirm what I was doing and not give up. Things got finished up right as people were walking into the theater. I spent the entire first service praying that God would continue to do great things in Cartersville through Oak Leaf Church. The second service went a little smoother and had quite a few more people in it than the first one. Now here is where God showed up……… we started letting people in and just like the prior service, we stopped letting people in when the first song started to allow the room to be completely dark. I was stoked because all the seats were filled at that point and couldn’t tell that anyone was outside waiting. First song was over and the doors were reopened…..people were coming into the theater in groves, we ran out of the plastic chairs that were brought in and had people sitting on the steps and standing all along the walls. It tore me up BIG TIME, I couldn’t help it. I was crying like a little baby. I know that God was showing me first hand why we do what we do even when things look like they are going so crappy. He is the reason we are there, He is the reason we get up at 4am on Sunday, He is the reason we stay and sweat after everyone else has left, HE IS THE REASON !!!
Thank you God for all that you do and for loving us when we don’t deserve it.
The official count for this Sunday was 912 people. The largest non-Easter attendence at Oak Leaf Church. You can read more about this on Michael’s Blog here.
